Donna Quiram- Aesthetician

I began life as a farmer's daughter in Hillsboro, Texas. We lost the farm when I was three and moved to the ”big” city of Waco. My parents bought a parcel of land with a house, on the outskirts of town, which had enough space for a large garden and my mom's beloved chickens. You have heard of sustainable living? That's what it really is; living off the land. This fueled just one of my passions; that of a simpler life where people grow things and share with each other. Ok, so I'm a dreamer.

School was of no interest to me. Just a prison of sorts. And some kids were mean which terrified me. Home schooling wasn't a concept yet. I wanted to be home and running free. Hopping on my banana bike down a country road.

When old enough to drive, my dad bought a rusty blue 1960's VW beetle just for me. It was glorious with a new paint job. And so esthetically pleasing with the old tyme white steering wheel and gear shift which I ground a lot on that country road. After school I would don a homemade white tennis dress and meet my friends. One drove a old VW carmengia and another a restored classic volvo. We didn't know we were cool. They were just cheap cars.

Another thing I developed as a youth was a bad case of acne. I read everything on the subject and bought all the drug store remedies. To no avail. As soon as I had the money I got a facial. Wow; it was the neatest thing I had ever experienced. I said to myself that I would one day do this work. The aesthetician also educated me about not stripping my skin with harsh cleansers and scrubs because it made the skin produce even more oil. Eureka!

Aestheticians were not on every street corner like today. After I got my license, I moved to the truly big city of Houston to apprentice. While there I met and studied with Adano Ley; a naturapathic physician who ran a holistic clinic. That changed my life. He was a spiritualist and healer who treated and encouraged people who the medical profession had given up on. Much of his teaching centered around nutrition and cleaning up the body internally. I learned many concepts that I love to share.

Life lead me to Austin in 1993. I thought maybe it would be a return to a simpler life. I still remember Austin in the 70's when there was not a car on the road by Barton Springs. It was just a hippie hangout. In my aesthetic work I gained much experience with the holistic product, Dr. Hauschka. Later training and visiting their lovely biodynamic gardens in Germany.

Fast forward 15 years later. I moved to Georgetown to join the man of my dreams, Kevin Bassinger. We live in a lovely 50's bungelow in old town. There's a wee garden out back and I'm still hoping for some chickens. With Kevin came Mae, a sweet basset hound. We became invovled with Helping Hands Basset Rescue who has placed over 600 homeless bassets. I adopted the love of my life, Lillie, another Basset hound. She died October 13, 2012. That's an indicator of how dear she was because I don't remember dates. She was a rascal and my best girl. Time marches on. We also aquired a wild cat we call Boot. And recently inherited a chihuahua named Gomez. I have a heart for all God's creatures, large and small.

Work led me to meet Ben Parker. He is the owner of Balance Wellness & Massage in Georgetown and one of our massage therapists. He makes us laugh a lot and we herd him like a mother. The intention of the place is to impart balance and peace to all. I think we do. It's such a lovely space.

I also get to spend time with other great ladies who are also massage therapist.

Georgetown has a lot to offer. It's beautiful and well laid out. Still a small town feeling with many wonderful people. So life is good. Please come and see us sometime! We are reasonably priced and will do the best job humanly possible.
